WHAT WE DO
Shift Jewelry was founded on the belief that there are times when you need to explore the "what if's" that come up in life. Shift Jewelry is a symbol of creativity, expression, and opportunity. Shift represents change, big dreams, and taking chances.
Shift Jewelry handcrafts silver, stone and enamel jewelry pieces with an emphasis on exploring different textures and techniques.
We define metalsmithing as "creating jewelry through the manipulation of various metals." Those manipulations or metalsmithing techniques include fabricating metal jewelry by forming and shaping it with hammers, mandrels, and other tools, sawing with a jeweler's saw or cutting with metal snips, doming with a metal dapping set, forging, fold forming, drilling holes for design elements or for use with cold connections such as rivets and screws, soldering, texturing metal with hammers and other metalsmithing tools, and metal stamping.
This technique requires no solder to join (fuse) the two metals surfaces together. It can be used in various ways, at Shift Jewelry, we use it as a technique to acquire new and unique textures that can then be made into something beautiful and wearable.
Enamel is a technique created by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 °C (1,380 and 1,560 °F). The powder melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating on metal. Shift Jewelry uses enamel as a way to create deep color and texture in an interesting way and then present it as a piece of beautiful jewelry.
We love stones here at Shift Jewelry and there are some that need a non-traditional setting. We are up for the challenge!
Growing up in Colorado, I was a student of the arts that saw the world through a creative set of lenses. I've been a Graphic Designer for the past 13 years but I realized that it wasn't enough, I needed something more, I needed to get out from behind the computer and work with my hands again to create something beautiful.
For the past 4 years I have been learning and creating in my spare time. Last October I decided to take a chance, I committed myself to creating jewelry and started Shift Jewelry in 2014. I couldn't decide what I liked better, metal smithing, fusing or enameling, so I decided I should do them all.
My passion for travel and making jewelry has enhanced my creative vision. I am excited to meet new people and learn new techniques to enhance and grow my skills as a Jewelry Designer.
This is my "what if"...What's yours?
